“PPP (Pollution Pacification and Prevention),” 2024

This PPP (Pollution Pacification and Prevention) station—located near the base of the mountainous mass of compact garbage upon which Hilltop Spa and Resort rests, just a few miles out from the base of the staircase—was constructed to monitor environmental conditions in the area, making sure all the trash stays contained, doesn’t end up somehow leeching into the surrounding natural environment. This is accomplished via regular sanitation missions, carried out by personnel who venture out to the mountains of trash to reapply flame retardant and Neo-Lysol (a really really powerful cleaning solution). Unfortunately, there isn’t enough flame retardant in the world to cover the entire mass of garbage, and a single fire is all it would take to send a catastrophic amount of toxic chemicals into the atmosphere. Just last night, one such fire began, caused by a mysterious explosion that occurred somewhere just outside the Hilltop facility’s outer perimeter. PPP personnel left the station in a desperate hurry, leaving it (and all of that incredibly expensive technology and equipment) totally vulnerable and unguarded. Naturally, scavengers were quick to take heed of this, emerging from the wilderness to scrap the station for parts.

The PPP people have just barely reached the base of the trash heap, and multiple (opposing) scavenger groups are already wrapping up their preliminary recon of the station. Each party is armed to the teeth—when they all rush to ransack the station, it will be absolute chaos. Meanwhile, in an unbelievable turn of events, a giant mechanical arm has descended from the stratosphere with seemingly ill intent, grabbing emergency response and rescue aircraft and flinging them at Hilltop, further fueling the flames.

This is an unmitigated catastrophe. By the end of today, this entire planet will be uninhabitable.
