ID Watch” 2024

Let’s not beat around the bush: at least 90% of the business conducted at Bill Sneevil’s 24/8 Snacks, Liquor and Commodities involves minors.

In fact, the sheer volume of illegal transactions conducted at this particular business made it a sort of neighborhood/county hotspot, the go-to place for teenagers or children to buy what they aren’t supposed to. For years, Bill Sneevil’s liquor store and the underaged population of Meebin County have existed in symbiosis—that is, until Sneevil made the critical mistake of selling a handle of tequila to the sheltered son of a particularly conservative police chief, who caught him (his son) drinking it just hours later after returning home early from an infidelity-related rendezvous with, coincidentally, Sneevil’s ex-girlfriend, who has very strong opinions about Sneevil and is very vocal in expressing them, especially to men she dates or otherwise romances. This means that the police chief regarded Sneevil as a hack or a loser even before he discovered the source of his son’s alcohol to be Bill Sneevil’s 24/8 Snack Liquor and Commodities, at which point his opinion turned from passive dislike to pure, unbridled hatred. After confronting Sneevil and getting him to confess to his indiscretion in selling alcohol to minors, the seathing police chief enlisted the help of a brand new form of punishment called ID WATCH, specifically designed for liquor store proprietors who are caught selling alcohol or tobacco to children. So although Bill Sneevil won’t go to prison or anything, he will spend the rest of his work days under the gaze of “CHRIS,” ID WATCH’s horrifying and cruel AI enforcer, who watches from a huge monitor (which also includes a built in mic, of course) with a full, fish-eyed view of the liquor store’s interior. If Sneevil steps out of line, CHRIS will immediately deploy a tentacled taser device to knock him unconscious, at which point human authorities would carry him to a prison cell, where the rest the legal process will be bypassed, the verdict regarding his innocence predetermined, totally non-negotiably, as guilty.
